Pastor Jomo K. Johnson

A Flawed, Imperfect, Pastor

My name is Pastor Jomo K. Johnson, and I have the privilege of serving as the lead pastor of Rose of Sharon Church in Falls Church, VA. On paper, my story might seem one of success—a life dedicated to ministry, leadership, and helping others find their purpose in Christ. I have a bachelor's and a master's degree from Westminster Seminary, have been featured in the news over a dozen times, and founded the successful company SMS Novel Films.

But the truth is, my journey has been marked not just by accomplishments but also by failures, struggles, and moments of deep despair.

Even as a Christian, I have wrestled with the same vices and challenges that many of you may know all too well. Depression, anger, doubt, and even drug use have been chapters in my story—reminders of how broken I am without the grace of God. I’ve sometimes questioned my faith, cried out in frustration, and felt like a hypocrite for preaching hope when I struggled to find it myself.

Yet, through it all, one truth has sustained me: Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. It’s a promise I’ve clung to in my darkest moments and a lifeline that has pulled me back when I’ve felt lost.

Early Life and Calling to Ministry

I didn’t grow up dreaming of being a pastor. Born in Honolulu and raised in Columbus, GA, my early years were a mix of searching for meaning and running from my mistakes. My life and mental health was forever changed when I witnessed my mother being shot by my father at the age of 4 years old. This would transform my family and myself, but God's protection kept my mother alive. For this I am forever grateful.

At 18, my life hit a breaking point. Trouble had found me, and I was drowning in my failures. It was then that I encountered the Gospel—not as a set of rules or traditions, but as the life-changing truth that God loved me enough to send His Son for my healing and salvation.

Becoming a Christian didn’t mean my struggles vanished. Far from it. But it did mean that I no longer faced them alone.

Rose of Sharon Church: A Place for Transformation

Rose of Sharon Church isn’t just a place for others to heal and grow—it’s a reflection of my own journey of restoration. Our mission is simple yet profound: to be a Christ-centered community where imperfect people encounter the perfect love of God.

We call ourselves a "Skill Church," blending spiritual formation with practical life skills. It’s not enough to simply know the Word; we aim to live it out—in relationships, finances, careers, and daily challenges.

From our nightly live stream to our free in-person counseling sessions, we’re committed to meeting people where they are. I believe deeply in creating spaces where brokenness isn’t hidden but embraced as the starting point for transformation.

A Vision for Empowerment

Even as a Christian and a pastor, doubt has followed me like a shadow. I’ve asked the hard questions: “Why me, God?” “Why am I still struggling?” “Am I enough for this calling?”

There have been seasons when I’ve felt like giving up, overwhelmed by the weight of my flaws. But time and again, God has reminded me that His grace is sufficient. Not because I am strong, but because His power is made perfect in weakness.

This isn’t just a theology I preach—it’s the reality I live. And it’s a message I want everyone to hear: No matter how far you’ve fallen, no matter how deep the pain, God’s grace is greater still.

Walking Alongside You

Through books, speaking engagements, and one-on-one life coaching, I’ve been blessed to share my story and help others write theirs. My greatest joy comes from witnessing lives changed—not because of anything I’ve done, but because of the transformative power of God’s love.

If you’re struggling today—if you feel unworthy, broken, or too far gone—I want you to know that you’re not alone. I’ve been there. I’ve questioned, fallen, and failed. But the same God who carried me through will do the same for you.

A Final Word

I’m not a perfect pastor, nor do I pretend to be. I am simply a man saved by grace, striving each day to reflect the love and mercy that God has so freely given me. If my story resonates with you, I invite you to come and be a part of our imperfect, grace-filled community at Rose of Sharon Church.

No matter where you are in your journey, know this: God’s grace is

sufficient, and His love never fails.

Pastor Jomo K. Johnson
Lead Pastor.
